OK Ladies I’m writing to you about the importance of a good skincare regimen is during the summer months.  At times we ladies get so comfortable with our daily routine that we don’t realize the necessity tocare for our faces.  First, there are five basic steps for a thorough skincare regimen; cleanse, exfoliate, tone, moisturize and protect.  MORNING & NIGHT!!! (we’ll talk about the importance of a night time regimen shortly)  Doesn’t that sound like a lot?!  If you’re anything like me, you’d rather hit the snooze button one more time and cut out a couple of steps.  Basically ladies, what you need to find is a combination cleanser (Mary Kay has a Timewise 3 in 1 cleanser that covers the first 3 steps in one product) to save yourself a few minutes and steps in the morning (and add a couple of snooze bar smacks) and before bed.  Secondly, make sure your moisturizer is made for your skin type.  We are all a little different and so is our skin.  If you have dry skin you’ll want to find something specifically designed for dry skin so it provides the extra moisture throughout the hot summer day.  Women often times won’t use a moisturizer if their skin is oily, but honestly, that only makes matters worse.  Our skin tends to over achieve and it will produce massive amounts of oil to over compensate for the lack of applied moisture.  Therefore, what’s best is to find an oil free moisturizer made for combination to oily skin and (wait for it…)  USE IT!  EVERY DAY!  Also, especially in Vegas, wearing sunscreen daily is very important.  Dermatologists suggest wearing sunscreens with SPF’s between 15-30.  Anything less is a waste of product on your skin and anything more isn’t necessary for everyday inside wear.  (It is important to have this protection even if you work inside because fluorescent lights emit UV rays that damage our skin on a much lower scale than direct sun)

Now let’s talk about “night time” skin care.  If there is any time to make sure you wash your face and care for your skin, it’s at night… and I’ll tell you why.  The Institute of Dermatology did a study and found that if you do not wash and moisturize before you go to bed, your skin will age anywhere from 8 – 13 days (each time!!!) I know we women  have enough stuff  fighting against us when it comes to aging and if we can make a win back a couple of years by taking 2 minutes at night to cleanse our beautiful mugs and exfoliate our skin, I’m all for it and you should be too!!!  So, just remember that following the five basic skincare steps;  cleanse, exfoliate, tone, moisturize and protect,  in the morning and at night, RELIGIOUSLY, your skin will love you for it, even during the Vegas summers.
